Drawing Upside Down
Drawing upside down can help your brain to process and image in a different manner than it normally would. By throwing out the context of the image, and focusing only on shape, line, and direction, you remove a lot of the anxiety that comes with drawing complex images.
First image (draw for about 10 minutes):
Now for the second image. The first image was a small slice of this image, and was done that way in order to fully remove all context of what the image was. Use this image to complete the drawing. If you choose to print the images, please work with the print upside down, in order to fully experience the technique.
Remember, this technique works well for some students, but not all. If this exercise is difficult for you, don't be discouraged. We will try more exercises as the year goes on. Just give it your best effort, and try to maintain a growth mindset.
